Scale effect on unnotched and open-hole cross-ply glass fiber/epoxy non-crimp fabric (NCF) composites under quasi-static tensile loading

چکیده

This study explores the effect of size scaling and stacking sequence on quasi-static tensile behavior [90/0]ns sublaminate-level [90n/0n]s ply-level scaled glass/epoxy laminates. Test results showed that unnotched strengths both specimens were comparable for a given factor, even though suffered extensive delamination between 90n 0n ply blocks. In contrast, open hole (OHT) strength was reduced with increased scale in marginally specimens. Similar to specimens, OHT exhibited delamination.

Ex-situ X-ray computed tomography data for a non-crimp fabric based glass fibre composite under fatigue loading

The data published with this article are high resolution X-ray computed tomography (CT) data obtained during an ex-situ fatigue test of a coupon test specimen made from a non-crimp fabric based glass fibre composite similar to those used for wind turbine blades. The fatigue test was interrupted four times for X-ray CT examination during the fatigue life of the considered specimen. All the X-ray...

Influence of Circular and Square Cut-outs on Fiber Glass/Epoxy Composite Laminate under Tensile Loading

Use of composites for a range of structural application in aircrafts, space-crafts, automobiles, etc., has widely spread in the last few years. Other than weight reduction, cut-outs provide pathways to link different aircraft parts. In this paper, an experimental investigation was conducted to study the effect of a cut-out on the tensile strength of the fiber glass/ epoxy composite plate. Geome...

Brazilian Test for Tensile Failure of Anisotropic Shale under Different Strain Rates at Quasi-static Loading

Shale formations show obvious anisotropic characteristics in their mechanical properties due to pronounced bedding planes and natural fractures. This anisotropic behavior generally creates complex fracturing networks and is crucial to gas shale stimulation. Although much research has been done to study the anisotropic compression behaviors of shale with static and quasi-static strain rates, the...

Dynamic and Quasi-Static Tensile Properties of Structural S400 Steel

The study of mechanical behavior of the structural steel S400 under quasi- static and dynamic loading has been the subject of this investigation. In oder to obtain different stress - triaxiality conditions the specimens were notched with 1, 1.5, 2 and 3.5 mm notch radius. The results of fractography show as the velocity of tension increases, ductility reduces and a ductile-brittle transition oc...

Estimation of Lamina Stiffness and Strength of Quadriaxial Non-Crimp Fabric Composites Based on Semi-Laminar Considerations

Quadriaxial non-crimp fabric (QNCF) composites are increasingly being used as primary structural materials in aircraft and automotive applications. Predicting the mechanical properties of QNCF lamina is more complicated compared with that of unidirectional (UD) composites, because of the knitting connection of different plies. In this study, to analyze the stiffness and strength of the QNCF com...
